The second Gravesham Festival of Light will take place on Friday October 23 through Gravesend Town Centre between 6.30pm and 7pm.  The parade will involve 13 schools from Gravesham who will be working with renowned arts company Samesky in the build up to the event.  In total over 450 young pupils will benefit from arts workshops.  The children will make lanterns and torches which they will carry in the parade.

Over 300 young people from 5 schools in Maidstone took part in a schools parade through Maidstone Town Centre on April 23 to celebrate Saint Georges Day. The schools taking part in the parade were; West Borough, St Francis, St Michaels, Archbishop Courtenay and Hollingbourne, which are all Primary Schools. Gravesend town centre was brought to a standstill one Friday evening late in September 2008 as over 400 schools children, teachers and parents were involved in the Festival of Light parade which started at the Civic Centre and culminated at the Fort Gardens.  The event was organised by North West Kent REC in partnership with Cohesion Plus, Gravesham Borough Council and Kent County Council to mark the national launch of the Cultural Olympiad which will build up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
