Gravesham Big Gig

Over 1500 people attended the Big Gig on Friday July 23 to formally launch the Big Day Out Weekend. The Big Gig was organised in partnership by Gravesham Borough Council and Cohesion Plus. The focus this year was on showcasing primarily the young talent that exists in the borough. Performances on the night included Taboo who recently appeared in the semi finals of “Britain has got Talent”, Street dance group True Kaizen, local hip hop act Maximus who will be releasing his debut album soon...

Tunbridge Wells Mela Schools Parade 2010

On Wednesday 7 July, over 500 children from 9 local primary schools took part in the Tunbridge Wells Schools Mela Schools Parade to officially launch the Mela celebrations. Carrying art pieces that represent diversity and a range of cultures, the children were led by Bloco Fogo the popular Samba Group, Uzambezi African Drummers and Dhol Drummers from Cultural Beats all of whom are Kent based artists.

Dartford Festival of Light

Preparations are underway for the first ever Dartford Festival of Light which will take place on Friday October 16 through Dartford Town Centre between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.  The parade will involve 11 schools from Dartford who will be working with renowned arts company Emergency Exit Arts in the build up to the event.  In total over 450 young pupils will benefit from arts workshops.  The children will make lanterns and torches which they will carry in the parade.

Maidstone Mela weekend

This year’s Maidstone Mela is set to be the biggest yet with a weekend of festivities planned for all the family.

The Mela, which means gathering, has attracted more than 35,000 people since it began in 2003 and this year is expected to be no different as it expands for the first time into a two-day event.
