The formal launch of the Maidstone Mela took place on July 14 with some 350 children joined by teachers and parents parading through the town centre led by Dhol Players, African Drummers and the Bloco Fogo Samba Group. The launch was made possible due to funding secured from Arts Council England.

Over 1500 people attended the Big Gig on Friday July 23 to formally launch the Big Day Out Weekend. The Big Gig was organised in partnership by Gravesham Borough Council and Cohesion Plus. The first ever Dartford Festival of Light took place on Friday October 16 through Dartford Town Centre between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. The parade involved 11 schools from Dartford who worked with renowned arts company Emergency Exit Arts in the build up to the event.
