Rain-soaked Gravesham Pride a Success

Gravesham Pride returned to Fort Gardens on Saturday 29 August, bringing together residents, families, community organisations and performers for a vibrant celebration of Pride, diversity and inclusion.

Despite persistent rain and challenging weather conditions, the event was very well supported, with people continuing to turn out throughout the day to enjoy the entertainment and show their support for Gravesham Pride. The strong attendance despite the weather demonstrated the community’s commitment to celebrating equality, inclusion and togetherness.

The stage featured a diverse line-up of performers, including Amanda Bang, Ebonie G, 4×4 Kings of Bhangra, Gifted Young Gravesham, a Freddie Mercury Tribute, the Loco Girls and local band Sneaker, providing a fantastic mix of music, dance and entertainment throughout the day.

Alongside the stage programme, visitors were able to explore a wide array of community stalls and food outlets, helping to create a welcoming festival atmosphere and providing local organisations with an opportunity to engage directly with the community.

The event once again demonstrated the importance of Gravesham Pride as a celebration where people from across the borough can come together, be themselves and show their support for equality, inclusion and the LGBTQ+ community.

Cohesion Plus worked in partnership with the Gravesham Pride CIC team to deliver the stage and artistic programme, bringing together local, community and professional performers to ensure the event reflected the diversity of Gravesham.

“Gravesham Pride is only possible because of the commitment and hard work of the volunteers who give up so much of their time, both in the build-up to the event and on the day itself. I want to thank the whole Gravesham Pride CIC team for everything they have done to make this year’s event such a success, particularly in such difficult weather conditions.”

At a time when we are seeing increasing division, bringing people together in this way matters more than ever.”

Gravesham Pride was supported by a range of partners including National Lottery Community Fund, Arts Council England, Kent Community Foundation, Glitter Beam Radio and National Highways.
