The Gravesend Community Mela Festival which was due to take place on Saturday July 14 had to be cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions. Torrential rain meant that the stage was flooded and with the rain not stopping the organisers reluctantly took the decision to pull the plug on the event. Gurvinder Sandher the Artistic Director of Cohesion Plus commented β€œTo say that I am disappointed is an understatement. Months of work had gone into arranging this event. In this day and age it is really difficult to raise funds for events like this, and to have to cancel at the very last minute was very upsetting. Nonetheless I have had many calls of support from within the community and from the artists involved and I am seeking if I can raise the funds to put the event on later on in the summer when hopefully the sun may be shining.” Jazzy B who was due to headline commented β€œI was very much looking forward to performing in Gravesend and was disappointed as anyone when I heard that the Mela had to be cancelled. I hope that it can be re-arranged as I have had numerous tweets from people who were looking forward to attending the event. It was just one of those things and I would like to thank Gurvinder and his team for all their hard work in putting the event on.”
