Maidstone Light Up Festival Illuminates Town with Spectacular Parade and Performances

The Maidstone Light Up Festival dazzled audiences on Friday, February 7th, with a vibrant celebration of light, music, and community spirit. Produced by Cohesion Plus and One Maidstone, with support from Maidstone Borough Council, the festival brought together local schools, community groups, and dynamic performers for an unforgettable evening.

A key highlight of the festival was the spectacular lantern parade, featuring participants from five local schools alongside various community groups. The parade was accompanied by the energetic sounds of Bloco Fogo Samba, DDFK Brass, and the Kings of Dhol, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the town. Leading the way was a breath-taking mechanical fire-breathing dragon, captivating crowds as it made its way through the streets.

The parade commenced outside County Hall and concluded at Jubilee Square, where audiences were treated to a medley of performances and a stunning pyrotechnic display.

Civic guests who participated in the parade included Deputy Lieutenant of Kent Andrew Wood, Mayor of Maidstone Cllr John Perry, KCC Chairman Cllr Bryan Sweetland, Leader of Kent County Council Cllr Roger Gough and Leader of Maidstone Borough Council Cllr Stuart Jeffery.

The event aimed to bring warmth and brightness to the winter season while also showcasing the charm and vibrancy of Maidstone Town Centre.

Gurvinder Sandher MBE DL, Artistic Director of Cohesion Plus commented. “The Maidstone Light Up Festival was a fantastic way to bring the community together and celebrate the County Town in a unique and creative way.
