Online Commonwealth Day a success.
Local community, civic and faither partners came together on Tuesday 9th March to celebrate Commonwealth Day. The event was produced by Cohesion Plus in partnership with Kent Equality Cohesion Council and the North Kent Caribbean Network. The event celebrated the many contributions made to the United Kingdom by Commonwealth communities here in Kent.
A key part of the programme saw the premiere of three short films produced by Cohesion Plus that explored education, health and policing featuring colleagues from those sectors with links to the Commonwealth. The event was closed with a powerful rendition of ‘Imagine’ especially produced for the event by The Grand, a young people led project in Gravesham.
Gurvinder Sandher, Artistic Director of Cohesion Plus commented, “We were committed to not only delivering a Commonwealth Day event but also to provide a platform for diverse speakers and artists. Such opportunities have become extremely limited due to the ongoing pandemic and this is especially true for BAME artists, so we felt it important to keep a space for diverse speakers and artists available. We are incredibly grateful to our event partners the North Kent Caribbean Network for their continued support and we look forward to providing similar events both online and in person as the lockdown eases.”
