Despite a withdrawal of funding from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council we are pleased to announce that after months of hard work that we are in a position to announce that the Tunbridge Wells Mela will be taking place on Calverley Grounds on July 7. We have been working in partnership with local community partners and with the support of funding from Arts Council England are close to confirming the final stage line-up.
Gurvinder Sandher the Artistic Director of Cohesion Plus commented “Of all the events that we organise the Tunbridge Wells Mela was the one most under threat, especially after the local authority withdrew all funding. Nonetheless with the support of a number of local community partners and funding secured from Arts Council England we are nearly there. We are still a little bit short of funding and are currently looking for potential sponsors to come forward but somehow we will make the Mela happen. Due to the funding constraints it will not be as big as previous years but we are working on an exciting stage line which will be announced shortly and we hope the local community will come out and support the Mela as they have done in previous years.”
